The infographic shows the main expeditions in the service of the Spanish monarchy that sailed to the Americas between 1492 and 1550. Each of these voyages is marked with a different colour:
- Christopher Columbus's first voyage (1492–1493)
- Christopher Columbus' second voyage (1493–1496)
- Third voyage of Christopher Columbus (1498)
- Fourth voyage of Christopher Columbus (1502–1504)
- Second voyage of Francisco Pizarro (1525)
- Third and fourth voyages of Francisco Pizarro (1531–1533)
- Hernán Cortés (1519–1525)
- Hernán Cortés (1533–1539)
- Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca (1528–1536)
- Diego de Almagro (1535–1537)
- Pedro de Valdivia (1540–1553)
- Francisco de Orellana (1541)
- Sunday Martínez de Irala (1543–1548)
- Juan Díaz de Solís (1516)
The map also includes a black dot for every city founded by the Spanish Empire before 1550, as well as the line that marks the boundary. the Treaty of Tordesillas, in blue.
