This map, created by Haylli for Wikimedia Commons, shows the Inca road system in South America.
The Inca road network consisted of two main axes. On one hand, there were the coastal routes, marked in dark blue on the map, and on the other, the mountain routes, marked in dark green. To connect both routes in multiple locations and reach the main centres of interest in the Inca Empire, there were also other secondary connecting branches, marked in pink.
The map also shows ancient Inca settlements (white), Inca settlements where a city now stands (yellow), and modern cities (green).
Although it is not shown on the map, the Inca road system extended as far as the present-day town of Pasto, in southern Colombia.
