This map, produced in 2024 as part of the National Atlas of Spain (ANE), shows all the biosphere reserves that exist in Spain.
Biosphere reserve is a title granted by UNESCO to certain territories around the world with the aim of promoting the conservation of biological biodiversity and economic development through the relationship between society and its natural environment. There are currently 756 biosphere reserves around the world, located in 136 countries. Spain leads the way with 55 territories holding this designation.
The map shows the different biogeographical regions that exist in Spain: Alpine (in pink), Atlantic (in green), Mediterranean (in yellow) and Macaronesian (in light purple). In addition, the 55 biosphere reserves that exist in Spain are represented in different shades of blue, four of which are transboundary, three shared with Portugal and one shared with Morocco.
