Spain's railway network in the 19th century (2021)

This map, created in 2021 as part of the National Atlas of Spain (ANE), shows the evolution of the railway network in Spain in the 19th century. The data shown on the map was compiled by Joaquín García Andrés.

The map shows all the lines that existed in 1900, marking each section with a different colour depending on the year of construction:

  • Red, built between 1848 and 1855.
  • Purple, built between 1855 and 1860.
  • Green, built between 1860 and 1868.
  • Yellow, built between 1868 and 1900.

Several of the railway lines that existed in Spain in 1900 have now disappeared or been replaced by more modern lines.
