This map, created by Landgeist in 2023, shows the expected school enrolment in each country in Europe, according to data published by the United Nations Development Programme in 2021.
The author uses a range of colours from yellow through green to dark blue to show the expected years of schooling in each country. At the highest end are Greece (20.0 years), Belgium (19.6) and Sweden (19.4). At the opposite end of the scale are San Marino (12.3 years), Andorra (13.3) and North Macedonia (13.6).
The data take into account the expected enrolment if school attendance ratios and legislation regarding compulsory education did not change in the different countries. These figures only assess years of schooling and have no direct correlation with the quality of education in each country.
