This map, created by Reddit user Danishmapper, shows the distribution of ethnic groups in Colombia, according to self-identification provided in the 2018 census.
Colombia is a country with great ethnic diversity. The main group are mestizos, who make up 53.5% of the country's population, followed by whites, with 20.5%, and blacks, with 10.5%. Indigenous peoples accounted for only 3.4% of the population.
The map shows the main groups in different regions of the country, with the highest percentage shown in the most intense colour:
- In blue, where mestizos and whites are in the majority.
- In yellow, where black people are in the majority.
- In red, where indigenous people are in the majority.
As this data is self-reported, it is important to bear in mind that ethnic groups with greater social prestige tend to be overrepresented.
