This map, posted on Reddit by Daniel Arnett in 2018, shows a world map centred on New Zealand.
New Zealand is a country that is not commonly represented on world maps. In fact, since 2015, there has been a community on Reddit which collects maps that do not show New Zealand. It was precisely in this community that Arnett originally published his map, as a nod to the community where maps without New Zealand are collected, with a map focused entirely on New Zealand.
To create the map, a cylindrical projection is used, but instead of using the north-south axis, an axis running from the north of the Pacific Ocean to the south of the Atlantic Ocean is used. This change of axis means that, instead of having the equator in the centre, there is another circumference of the Earth that crosses New Zealand. In this way, New Zealand can be placed in the centre of the map, allowing the rest of the countries to be positioned using this particular reference point.
