In addition to accompanying the saying in each region of Europe, the map is colour-coded to differentiate between the two main variations:

  • Nine lives (orange): France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey...
  • Seven lives (green): Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Germany, Austria, Albania...
