This map, created by Yanko Tsvetkov in 2010, can be found in the first volume of the Atlas of Prejudice (Atlas of Prejudice), published in 2013.
This image brings together some of the most common prejudices Germans have when thinking about or referring to other European countries. Some of the most interesting ones are:
- Balearic Islands, labelled as «The German Balearic Islands».
- Spain and Greece, labelled as «Cheap hotels here».
- Turkey, labelled as «Source of labour».
- Italy, labelled as «Pizza and museums».
- Russia, labelled as the «gas safe deposit box».
- Belarus and Ukraine, labelled as «Gas Transit Land».
- West Germany, labelled as «Savings Bank».
- East Germany, labelled as «Proletariat».
- United Kingdom, labelled as «Enigma code hackers».
The map itself is intended to be an exaggeration of prejudices, in an attempt to ridicule the supposed German view and the prejudices themselves.
