American cities founded by the French (2024)

This map, published by Arhan Sarkar in 2024, shows the main cities founded by the French in what is now the United States.

French colonisation of North America began in 1534 and ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Paris, which divided the entire territory of New France between the Spanish Empire and the British Empire. For more than two centuries, France founded numerous cities, including New Orleans (Louisiana), Saint Louis (Missouri), Detroit (Michigan) and Chicago (Illinois), which are still prominent today.

PS: The map incorrectly labels the state of Alabama as Georgia (GA).
