Political map of Europe (1748)

This detailed map, created in 2023 by Gustav Ståhlberg, shows the political situation in Europe in 1748.

At this moment, the Treaty of Aachen has just been signed, bringing an end to the War of the Austrian Succession. Almost all the European powers had been involved in this conflict, but after the peace agreement, most of the borders returned to their original lines, with the exception of a few small territories in Italy that became part of the Kingdom of Spain, the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Duchy of Savoy.

The map shows the Holy Roman Empire, marked with a red line, which at that time was under the rule of Emperor Francis I.
