Map of Gerona, by Alberto Martín (1918)

Map of the city of Gerona (now Girona), published in 1918 in Barcelona by Alberto Martín, with information provided and reviewed by the city council. The map is oriented with east at the top.

The map shows the four rivers that converge in Girona (Oñar, Ter, Güell and Galligants) when they all flowed above ground. During the 20th century, the Güell River was completely buried, and the Galligants River was also buried at the end of its mouth into the Güell River.

In addition to the expansion of Girona in 1918, you can also see the plan for the city's expansion on the west bank of the River Oñar, in dark red, a project that would be completed throughout the 20th century to link the historic city with the railway station built in the mid-19th century. The expansion completely demolished the remains of the city walls on this side of the river that can still be seen on this map.
