This map, drawn by Prajna Ghosh and published in ThePrint in 2024, shows China's territorial claims in Bhutan.
Despite the existence of a recognised international border, there is no officially agreed border between China and Bhutan. This situation has allowed China to play a double game in its relations with Bhutan, on the one hand negotiating the border demarcation and, on the other, establishing new settlements in territories that, a priori, are part of Bhutan.
On this map, the author depicts the territory of Bhutan in yellow. The areas where China has created new villages and settled citizens are shown in orange: Chagdzom in the north, Sakteng in the east, and Pangda in the west. Kula Khari, a historical claim by Bhutan over Chinese territory that Bhutan ceased to pursue in the 1980s, is shown in grey.
