This map, drawn by military engineer Agustín Codazzi, shows the administrative division into departments of the Republic of Colombia, also known as Gran Colombia, in 1824.
The map is part of the Physical and Political Atlas of the Republic of Venezuela, an atlas compiled by Codazzi between 1830 and 1838, during which time he surveyed Venezuela, and published in Paris in 1840.
This work also added important historical context, as in the case of this map of Gran Colombia, a country that only existed between 1819 and 1831, giving way to the current countries of Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador.
