This map, published by the Encyclopaedia Britannica, shows the distribution of the 1991 Gulf War, specifically the moment when United Nations troops launched the ground offensive to drive the Iraqis out of Kuwait.
The war began in August 1990, when Saddam Hussein's forces invaded Kuwait. After several months of sanctions, in January 1991 a coalition under the United Nations flag began bombing to drive out the invading troops.
In the upper right-hand corner of the map, there is a detailed account of the progress made by United Nations forces from the start of the ground invasion until the expulsion of Iraqi forces in February 1991.
