Air passengers between cities in Brazil (2023)

This map was published by Robert Aguilar Celis in 2023 as part of the initiative #30DayMapChallenge.

The map shows flight routes between airports in Brazil. The different colours indicate the number of passengers who took each route in 2019, according to data provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE):

  • In purple, routes with more than 626,155 passengers.
  • In blue, routes between 213,785 and 626,155 passengers.
  • In yellow, routes with fewer than 213,785 passengers.

This information highlights the importance of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as the country's main cities, and shows that the rest of Brazil's major cities are mainly located along the Atlantic coast.
