Maritime traffic in the Panama Canal (2023)

This map was published by Tatiana Pashagina in 2023 as part of the initiative #30DayMapChallenge.

The map shows the maritime traffic of ships passing through the Panama Canal each day. Using different colours, the author marks the busiest routes near the two entry points to the canal.

It can be observed that multiple routes arrive from different parts of the Atlantic Ocean in the north, while in the south there are two main routes, one that maintains its course towards the South Pacific and another that turns west, presumably towards the North Pacific.

The map also includes bathymetric data on the depth of areas near the coast, shown in different shades of purple.

You can find more information about the initiative here. #30DayMapChallenge in what I wrote in the newsletter.
