This illustration, created by Terence Teo, The map of Moldova, represents the population density of Moldova on a three-dimensional map. For this purpose, Terence has extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.
This map of Moldova shows the various population peaks, dominated by the urban area of the capital city of Chisinau, whose metropolitan area accounts for more than a quarter of the country's population. In addition, the illustration also shows other peaks in Bălți, the country's second largest city, and Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria, a de facto independent country of Moldova, albeit with limited recognition.
