Average annual rainfall in Guatemala (2023)

This map was produced by the Rafael Landívar University in 2023 with data compiled by the National Geographic Institute of Guatemala, the Planning and Risk Management Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture (MAGA) and Insivumeh.

The map shows the average annual rainfall in Guatemala. For this purpose, the authors use different shades of blue, indicating with the most intense the places with the most precipitation and with the lightest the driest areas. Superimposed with red lines, the boundaries of the river basins are shown, as well as their respective names.

Among the wettest areas are the north of the country, the department of Petén, as well as the Pacific coastal strip in the south. At the opposite extreme is the Motagua valley, where rainfall does not exceed 1,500 mm, as it is limited by the Cuchumatanes mountain range and the Sierra Madre.
