This map was created by Spanish cartographer Tom\u00e1s L\u00f3pez de Vargas Machuca in 1766 and published posthumously by his sons in the \u00abGeographical Atlas of Spain<\/a>\u00bb from 1804. The map depicts the province of Guadalajara with the territorial boundaries prior to Javier de Burgos's reform of the provincial administration in 1833.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former province of Guadalajara bordered to the north with the province of Segovia<\/a>, to the northeast with the province of Soria<\/a>, to the southeast with the province of Cuenca<\/a>, to the south with the province of Toledo<\/a> and to the west with the province of Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The province is divided into three judicial districts (Sig\u00fcenza, Guadalajara and Colmenar Viejo) and three territories (Buitrago, Hita and Ladraque). It covered areas that are now part of the province of Madrid, including much of the north of the city of Madrid, such as Cercedilla, El Pardo, Colmenar Viejo, El Molar and Buitrago de Lozoya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
