This illustration, created by Andrew Rhodes<\/a> in 2025, represents the Baltic Sea as seen from Central Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a physical map that uses a perspective inspired by the work of\u00a0Richard Edes Harrison<\/a>. This cartographer used this type of perspective during the Second World War and the Cold War to convey the closeness and isolation that some regions can have depending on the perspective used. The perspective of this map shows the narrowness of the access to the Baltic Sea, whose only exit to the ocean is through the Kattegat and Skagerrak straits between Denmark and Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The author also incorporates references to major cities, as well as yellow dots to help show the most densely populated places, including the Copenhagen-Stockholm axis, St Petersburg, Hamburg and Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
