This map, drawn by Arturo Seelstrang in 1886, is part of the Geographical Atlas of the Argentine Republic (1882\u20131892), published by the Argentine Geographical Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map covers the province of San Luis. The boundaries of this province were established in 1880, following the signing of an agreement with the neighbouring province of La Rioja. On this map, the province of San Luis already has the same area as it does today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the 19th century, none of the towns in the province were of national importance, but both San Luis (the capital) and Villa Mercedes were already beginning to stand out from the rest. Even so, neither of them had more than 10,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
