This map, drawn by Scottish cartographer Thomas Brumby Johnston and published by W. and A. K. Johnston in 1873, shows the distribution of Scottish clans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scottish clans are social groups whose members are related by family ties. Historically, clans have served to maintain a sense of community and have built unique subcultures within Scottish territory. Among other things, each clan has its own coat of arms or kilt <\/em>differentiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although maps showing the distribution of Scottish clans existed prior to the 18th century, this particular map achieved great popularity. This was partly due to the great popularity of the publishing house W. and A. K. Johnston in Scotland. This is the first edition of the map, although Johnston and his relatives produced several later versions with slight corrections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
