This map, published in 2022 by the National Geographic Institute of Spain, shows all earthquakes recorded in the Iberian Peninsula and its surroundings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colour is used to show the depth of earthquakes recorded between 1924 and 2021, with the exception of white, which is used to locate earthquakes recorded through historical sources, from 1048 to 1923. The size of each circle indicates the magnitude of the earthquakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By plotting all earthquakes on a map, it is easy to see the separation between the African plate and the Eurasian plate, as this is the region where most earthquakes have occurred. It is particularly interesting to note the low seismicity of the interior of the Iberian Peninsula, with some Spanish provinces, such as Segovia, \u00c1vila and Valladolid, never having recorded an earthquake of more than 3.5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
