This map, published by the Automobile Manufacturers Association in 1958, shows American products by geographical region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1956, a project to consolidate the interstate motorway network was approved in the United States, with a large investment from the federal government. This map, which was published two years later, was part of the truck manufacturers' lobby to highlight the importance of this mode of transport, as opposed to rail, in facilitating the transport of goods from one part of the country to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pictorial map shows the most typical products of each region, but intentionally limits widely available products to specific regions in order to convey a sense of need for transport that is not always necessary. In addition, on the outside, the association included 32 types of lorries that were being manufactured by various members and that could benefit American society if the interstate motorway system were improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
