Chapin, was published in TIME magazine on 1 April 1946. It depicts communism as a virus spreading from the Soviet Union to the rest of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the Soviet Union painted in red, there are three other representations in the legend:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Red lines: This is how countries in \u201cquarantine\u201d are marked, including the entire Warsaw Pact, Iran, Turkey, Mongolia, Manchuria and North Korea.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Large red dots: This is how the \u201cinfected\u201d countries are shown, among which Chapin includes most European countries where socialist parties have some influence, such as Greece, Italy, Germany, and France.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small red dots: These represent the \u201cexposed\u201d countries, which Chapin includes Spain, Egypt, the entire Middle East, Afghanistan, and India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is one of the maps that marks the beginning of the Cold War after the end of the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/digital.library.cornell.edu\/catalog\/ss:19343314\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Communist Contagion \u2013 Cornell University Library<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This propaganda map, created by Robert M.
