This map, published by Ninacor Bolo\u00f1a, shows the port city of Valpara\u00edso in 1895.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valpara\u00edso was a city of great importance during the colonial era, as it was the port of entry to Santiago de Chile. During this period, it only traded with the port of Callao in Peru. After independence, trade increased and, consequently, the city's population skyrocketed, growing from 5,000 inhabitants at the beginning of the 19th century to 160,000 when this map was published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the map of Bolo\u00f1a, you can still see the old Fuete Ciudadela, in the western part of the city. It was demolished at the beginning of the 20th century and the current Almirante Nef Naval Hospital was built on the same site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
