This map was drawn by Roberto Montenegro in 1935 for the American company Southern Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southern Pacific was an American railway company that, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, built the railway line connecting Nogales, on the border between Mexico and the United States, with Mexico City. The line connected the Southern Pacific railway network in the United States with important ports such as Guaymas, in the state of Sonora, and Mazatl\u00e1n, in the state of Sinaloa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Montenegro's illustration shows a map of Mexico in the centre, with the Southern Pacific railway line from Nogales to Mexico City. The map is accompanied by pictorial illustrations of Mazatl\u00e1n at the top and Guaymas at the bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The train became the property of the Mexican government in 1950 and was operated until 1987 under the control of Ferrocarril del Pac\u00edfico, when it became part of Ferrocarriles Nacionales de M\u00e9xico. In 1997, passenger transport on this line was suspended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
