This map, printed around 1894 by the lithographic company A. Lynn, successor to Morris, shows the maritime lighting of the island of Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map focuses on the main lighthouses that covered the entire coastline of the island. In 1869, the Spanish government proposed the first plan to create a hierarchy of lighthouses to aid navigation for ships near the coast of Puerto Rico. To this end, two orders of lighthouses were defined based on their height and light, which are represented on the map by circles describing the range of each lighthouse's light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map also includes the road and railway networks that existed on the island at that time. In fact, the map itself is not dated, but the state of construction of the transport network suggests that it must have been published sometime between 1894 and 1902, which was the period when construction of the railway line was at a standstill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
