This map, created by FairPolitics<\/a> for the website Deciphering the War<\/a> in 2024, shows the border between North Korea and South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Korea's liberation during the Second World War, Korea was divided into two states, one aligned with the Soviet Union, North Korea, and the other aligned with the United States, South Korea. The tension led to the Korean War (1950\u20131953), after which an armistice was signed, but not a peace treaty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map shows some conflicts and details of the border in recent years, such as the Kaesong industrial zone, which operated between 2002 and 2016, and the K\u016dmgangsan tourist zone, which admitted foreigners to North Korea between 2002 and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
