This map, published by Brazil on Maps<\/a>, shows the percentage of the population living in extreme poverty in different South American countries in 2019 and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the map, extreme poverty is defined as those people who have to live on less than US$2.15 per day in 2024 and US$1.90 in 2019. The different colours show the range in which each country is situated in each of the years taken as a reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 2019 and 2024, the situation worsens significantly in Venezuela, which goes from 12.9% to 50.5%, in Guyana, from 5.2% to 35.1%, and in Argentina, from 7.7% to 17.5%. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Suriname, which goes from 20% to 3%. In absolute terms, Uruguay and Chile are in the lead, followed by Paraguay and Bolivia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
