The map depicts the state of Panama when it was still part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mapasmilhaud.com\/en\/old-maps\/the-united-states-of-colombia-1883\/\">United States of Colombia<\/a>\u00a0and before its separation from Colombia in 1903.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former state of Panama bordered Costa Rica to the west, the Caribbean Sea to the north, the state of Cauca to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
