This historical map, created by Cattette<\/a>\u00a0in 2023, shows the extent of Carthage before the Punic Wars, in the year 265 BC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Punic Wars were a series of conflicts between Carthage and Rome that lasted from 264 BC to 146 BC. Prior to this confrontation, Carthage was the dominant power in the Western Mediterranean, with its capital in Carthage, in present-day Tunisia, but with a presence throughout North Africa, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and the southern Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the leadership of Am\u00edlcar Barca, between the First and Second Punic Wars, Carthage expanded across the Iberian Peninsula, reaching its maximum extent in 228 BC, which is marked with a blue line on the map. In addition, all the Greek colonies in the region are highlighted in orange in the illustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
