This map of Argentina was drawn by cartographer Mariano Felipe Paz Sold\u00e1n and published in 1888 as part of the Geographical Atlas of the Argentine Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map shows the province of Tierra del Fuego, as defined on 16 October 1884, reflecting the agreement reached between Argentina and Chile to divide Patagonia in a treaty signed in 1881. Although this map groups Tierra del Fuego and the Falkland Islands together, the Tierra del Fuego province did not officially include the Falkland Islands until 1904, even though this archipelago had been occupied by the British Empire since 1833.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This governorship later became a territory in 1957, shortly after territorial claims in Antarctica were added to the governorship (in 1942). In 1990, the territory achieved provincial status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
