This region is currently administered by Guyana, but Venezuela claims sovereignty over it based on the 1966 Geneva Agreement signed between Venezuela and the United Kingdom, to whom Guyana belonged before decolonisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the disputed territory (marked in red), the map also shows all hydrocarbon operations in the region:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Grey<\/strong>: oil fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yellow<\/strong>: gas operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blue<\/strong>: maritime hydrocarbon operations under concession.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Green dotted lines (for Guyana) and purple dotted lines (for Venezuela) also show the maritime claims of both countries.
