This map was created by Spanish cartographer Tom\u00e1s L\u00f3pez de Vargas Machuca in 1768 and published posthumously by his sons in the \u201cGeographical Atlas of Spain<\/a>\u201d from 1804. The map depicts the Kingdom of Murcia with its territorial boundaries prior to the provincial administrative reform carried out by Javier de Burgos in 1833.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kingdom of Murcia comprised, approximately, the province of Murcia. In addition, it bordered to the north with the province of Cuenca<\/a>, to the east with the Kingdom of Valencia<\/a>, to the south with the Mediterranean Sea, to the southwest with the Kingdom of Granada<\/a> and to the north-west with the province of La Mancha<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The administrative division of the kingdom comprised several judicial districts: Ziezar, Chinchilla, Villena, Hell\u00edn and Segura. In addition, the Huerta de Murcia and Campo de Murcia were also demarcated, as were the cities of Cartagena and Lorca, which were not associated with any district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
