This map of the United Arab Emirates was published by the CIA in 1991 and is currently held in the cartographic collection at the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) at the University of Texas at Austin, in the United States.
The map shows the topography of the Asian country, its roads and, in purple, the approximate administrative boundaries of each territory. The key lists ten divisions, although only seven are emirates: Ras al Khaimah (1), Umm al-Quwain (2), Fujairah (3), Ajman (4), Sharjah (5), Dubai (7) and Abu Dhabi (10).
The remaining three are areas with special status. Area 6 is an area shared by Fujairah and Sharjah on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, which still exists today. Area 8, adjacent to Masfut, corresponds to Hadf, which has been jointly administered by Ajman and Oman under a 1960 agreement and was ceded by Ajman to Oman in the 1980s. Area 9 is a small neutral zone between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
