This map, drawn by cartographer William Faden in 1799 and published in his General Atlas of 1811, depicts the confederation of cantons of Switzerland, as well as its allies and subjects.

The map shows the thirteen cantons that formed the former confederation:

  • Bern
  • Zurich
  • Zug
  • Glaris
  • Uri
  • Schwyz
  • Unterwalden
  • Freiburg
  • Solothurn
  • Basel
  • Lucerne
  • Schaffhausen
  • Appenzell

It can be seen that the city of Geneva was not yet part of the confederation, but appears as part of the Kingdom of Savoy. It would join Switzerland in 1822.
