This map of the Persian Gulf, attributed to Abu Ishaq al-Zajjaj, was published around the 9th century. This copy was translated into Persian by the Persian historian Khwandamir in the early 16th century and is currently held in the National Library of France.

The representation shown on the map is generalised and, to a certain extent, schematic, as was common in many maps of the Middle Ages, especially when they were intended for study rather than navigation. The map is oriented with north to the right of the map. In fact, the cardinal points appear in red in the text, with north marked at the bottom right. The author, possibly the translator, mistakenly swaps west and east.
