This map of Peru was published by the Peruvian Immigration and Colonisation Directorate in 1903.

The map shows the territorial extent of Peru in 1903, before various territorial changes took place in subsequent years:

  • The Velarde-Rio Branco Treaty of 1909, which resulted in the loss of territories in the Amazon region to Brazil.
  • The Polo-Bustamante Treaty of 1909, which marked the new border between Peru and Bolivia.
  • Treaty of Lima of 1929, which resulted in the loss of the province of Tacna to Chile.
  • Rio de Janeiro Protocol, which established the definitive borders between Peru and Ecuador.

The main purpose of this map was to show that Peru was suitable for European immigrants who wanted to settle in the country. To this end, it includes the main rivers and cities, as well as railway lines and markers indicating the navigability of the rivers in the Amazon rainforest.
