This physical map of Colombia was created by Abel Gil Lobo for the website El Orden Mundial in 2021.
The map shows the country’s topography and the bathymetry of the surrounding seas, both the Caribbean and the Pacific. The higher-altitude areas, dominated by the three branches of the Andes mountain range – which enters Colombia from the south and divides into the Western, Central and Eastern Cordilleras – are shown in yellow and brown. In the far north, separate from the Andean range, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is home to the country’s highest peaks: the twin peaks of Cristóbal Colón and Simón Bolívar, both at 5,775 metres.
The colour green represents the lowest-lying areas, notably the Amazonian and Orinoquía plains in the east, and the narrow coastal strips along both coasts. The map also identifies the country’s main rivers, notably the Magdalena and the Cauca, which link the inter-Andean valleys.
