Renewable energy in Europe (2021)

This map, created by Álvaro Merino for the website The World Order and published in 2021, shows the power stations that use renewable energy in Europe, according to data available in 2019.

The map shows the distribution of renewable energy sources across Europe:

  • Solar energy, in yellow. The largest number of power stations that use this type of energy are located in England, Germany, the Czech Republic and southern France.
  • Wind energy, in light blue. Power stations that use this type of energy as a source are located near the Atlantic Ocean, where winds tend to be stronger.
  • Hydroelectric power, in dark blue. Topography and rivers are fundamental to the use of this energy, so it is not surprising to see its prevalence in mountainous areas (the Pyrenees and the Alps), as well as along Europe's major rivers.
