This illustration, created by Terence Teo, depicts Rwanda’s population density on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence has extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates, by means of a programme, columns with a height representing the population density at each point.
This map of Rwanda shows the overall prominence of the capital, Kigali, and its metropolitan area. Other major cities highlighted on the map are Gisenyi, in the north-west of the country, and Cyangugu, in the south-west. These two cities are the main border crossings with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, situated at either end of Lake Kivu.
