This illustration, created by Terence Teo, depicts Jordan’s population density on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence has extracted the data available at Kontur Population, using which it generates, via a programme, columns whose height represents the population density at each point.

This map of Jordan shows the dominant presence of the capital, Amman, and its neighbouring city, Zarqa, whose contiguous metropolitan areas account for almost 60 % of the country’s population. Other major cities that stand out on the map are Aqaba, in the south-east of the country—the only coastal city—and Ruwaished, the only significant city in the Jordanian desert.
