This illustration, created by Terence Teo, depicts Greece’s population density on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence has extracted the data available at Kontur Population, using which it generates, via a programme, columns whose height represents the population density at each point.
This map of Greece shows the overall dominance of the capital, Athens, and its metropolitan area. Other major cities that stand out on the map are Thessaloniki, in the north; Patras, on the Peloponnese peninsula; Rhodes, on the island of Rhodes; and Heraklion, on the island of Crete.
