Armed violence, protests and riots in Venezuela (2018–2022)

This map, published by José Luengo-Cabrera, shows the violent events reported in Venezuela between January 2018 and September 2022, according to data from Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED).

On the left-hand side, you can see the geographical distribution of armed violence (in red) and protests and riots (in green). On the right-hand side, there is also a timeline graph.

Geographically, on the map, there is a direct correlation with the population density of Venezuela. Perhaps the only remarkable thing is the huge difference between armed violence in Caracas and Maracaibo compared to the rest of the country.

In terms of timing, we can see that disturbances and protests remained more or less constant, but that armed events decreased significantly between 2018 and 2022.
