Where can you drink tap water? (2023)

This map, published by QS Supplies, shows the safety of drinking tap water in every country in the world. To do this, it uses data provided by CDS (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention), the US national public health agency.

All countries where it is safe to drink tap water are shown in blue, including most of Europe, Chile, Costa Rica, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Only fifty countries in the world meet the safety requirements for drinking tap water.

Countries where it is unsafe to drink tap water in most of the territory are shown in orange. These countries include the entire African continent, as well as much of America, Asia and Oceania.
