The Mythological Monsters of Scotland (2022)

This map, created by Neil Parkinson of Púca Printhouse In 2022, it showcases the monsters of Scottish mythology.

Among the many myths that the author recovers in this map, some of the most iconic are worth highlighting:

Nessie, the Loch Ness monster.
Each Uisge, the water horse that lives in lakes and drags its victims to the bottom.
Selkie, the creature that takes the form of a seal at sea and that of a human on land.
Kelpie, the supernatural horse of rivers and estuaries, a cousin of Each Uisge but associated with flowing waters.
Cailleach, the divine old woman of winter, one of the oldest figures in Gaelic mythology.
Cù Sìth, the supernatural dog with green fur that heralds death.
Nuckelavee, the skinless beast of the Orkney Islands, considered one of the most feared creatures in Scottish folklore.
Bogle, the spirit whose sole purpose is to baffle humans, and which gave rise to the English expression it boggles the mind.
Cirein Cròin, the sea serpent of Gaelic mythology which, according to tradition, was large enough to devour seven whales.
Stoor Worm, the giant worm from the mythology of the islands off the north coast of Scotland.

Many of the myths depicted are typical of a much wider region than the one in which they are located on the map.
