Colour of passports around the world (2023)

This map, created by Reddit user vajranen in 2023, shows the colour of all passports in the world.

Passports are documents issued by each country that are valid for travel to other countries. They all have the same structure, in accordance with the agreement signed in 1980 by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. One of the most distinctive features of passports is their different coloured covers.

On the map, you can see that there are four fundamental colours, although these are divided into multiple ranges:

  • Blue passports (dark blue, blue, turquoise): in 84 countries worldwide.
  • Red passports (maroon, red, brown): in 68 countries around the world.
  • Green passports (dark green, green): in 40 countries around the world.
  • Black passports: in 7 countries around the world.

In addition to countries, there are other international entities that also have their own internationally recognised passports, such as the UN and the Order of Malta.
