This map, created by Adam Symington in 2023, shows the global road network, according to GRIP data, the global road database.
The illustration represents a total of 21.6 million kilometres of roads on every continent in the world, except Antarctica. The author also uses a colour system to indicate the quality of roads in different parts of the world:
- Blank, the primary roads.
- In yellow, the secondary roads.
- In red, the tertiary roads.
This colour code allows you to quickly see the differences between densely populated and economically prosperous regions, such as Europe, China and Japan, compared to other sparsely populated and resource-poor areas, such as much of Africa.
